Max Eccles, a Drupal Developer at Code Enigma, Explains His First Week in Post
It’s been a really exciting and interesting week joining the Code Enigma family. Having worked primarily in office based agencies before, I was really curious how my first week working remotely would be. Feeling a little nervous, I sat down to begin my first day with a coffee in hand and laptop in front of me and I remember thinking “now what?”.
Thankfully, I didn’t wonder for very long. I was virtually greeted straight away by the team and everybody was really helpful, friendly and supportive while I got set up. During the first few hours, I realised distance wasn’t going to be a barrier at all. Everything was extremely organised. The virtual office was set up so everybody was connected and any question you could think of was answered somewhere in the documentation.
As I got to know the team and learnt about the processes and working culture Code Enigma had created, I realised that eradicating the challenges of distributed working wasn’t all it was good for. I was really amazed to see that everybody in the team was totally committed to producing the highest standard of work. The processes were designed to assist people in doing that by providing clear, measurable standards along with the means to achieve them.
I have never experienced this level of commitment to ensuring only the highest quality of work is produced for the client. Not only this, but Code Enigma seems to manage it while still prioritising people over tech. Everybody seems really happy to be working here and there are opportunities to provide feedback about how you’re feeling on a regular basis. The group dynamic is also really fun — there hasn’t been a call that I didn’t laugh on.
As I start to get more hands on with my role in my second week, I feel both excited and, if I’m honest, a tiny bit intimidated. I think this is only natural as I am joining such an expert team. Thankfully, I’m up for the challenge and I know I’m surrounded by a great bunch of people who will support me along the way.
